FIREPLACE

I just love having a fire place! I really do! I love a REAL roaring crackling fire!!! With real wood burning!  Today my dad got a truck load of wood.  We got half because Brian and the boys unloaded it all and stacked it.  THANKS POP!

We are still having a problem with our fire place though.  I’m still noticing a hint of smoke when we get a fire going.  Brian is doing everything “RIGHT” as far as getting it started and all.  We even have gas that we flip on to get it blazing sometimes.  We had the chimney cleaned and checked out a couple months ago.  Got a new rack for the wood to sit on.  I’m starting to wonder if the opening in the front isn’t WIDE enough???! I hate the gold frame around the fire place anyway, but we don’t have a clue how to take it out and put in another one?! Do you think that could be the problem?

Any ideas why we could still be getting “smoke” through the house when we have the fire going?  I shouldn’t have my house smelling like a camp fire!

    Spring,

I did some research on the internet and found the following. One article talks about negative pressure in the house. It says to try opening a window or sliding door when using the fireplace to help the air flow. Another article suggests a smoke guard, which lowers the opening in the fireplace to keep the smoke in. I would try the window first, as the smoke guard would have to be purchased and installed.

    Hope this helps.
