Luke escaped!

We built this cute little white picket fence around our front yard with the intentions of keeping it shut to make it a safe place in case Luke went out to play or got out with out us knowing.  Well he has escaped very QUICKLY two times now.  The first time was a few weeks ago.  I forgot to shut the gate and out screen door doesn’t clamp shut always.  Thinking I shut the door, and Luke was playing nicely in the family room.  I went to put something away in the back of the house and came out to find Brian carrying him in (he was coming home for lunch).  Brian said he was out in the street under the basketball hoop.  Seriously happened within a second!! That kid makes DASH when he gets out.  Scared me to death.

Then, yesterday….. I was in the bedroom and Brian was laying on the bed playing a game.  I asked if he could check the front door.  He did, and proceeded to tell Gregory (as he was walking in from outside) to shut the door since he was on his way in.  Well the door didn’t get shut.  I didn’t know this at the time! It was pretty quiet.  I  ran out of my room and saw the door opened.  And the gate opened. I started freaking out, and yelling for Luke.  Guess where he was??? Down in my parents DRIVE WAY!!! A neighbor girl yelled to me and said “I think he’s right down here”.  I ran down to get him.  Practically went into labor there for a second! The boys got a HUGE talking to last night! Luke should have got a spaken on the spot too, but I didn’t think about it at the time.  I guess I was just sooo thankful he was OK and wasn’t hurt! Maybe he just wanted some more of Granma’s chocolate cake?! He seemed to know where he was going!

Maybe we need to make sure the gates get springs on them or something, just to be sure they get shut?!

Oh my goodness….that's quite the little escape artist you've got, and fast too!!! Yikes….how scary. I think springs on the gate sounds like a brilliant idea, that way they will close automatically and keep little Luke in!

Oh wow, that is so scary. What a little stinker! I know the feeling, though, we still have huge safety issues with Landon and have to be very careful that he doesn't get out front by himself. One time I couldn't find him and FREAKED out. He had thankfully gone into the cul-de-sac, not away from it, and was at the end in a neighbors driveway teasing their mean dog.
