My sister Lacey asked me the other day “If the Dr. says the short seizures aren’t hurting him, then why medicate him”.
It got me thinking, and Brian and I were discussing it today. Brian remembered the Dr. in the hospital telling us that the idea behind the medicine is to keep him from having seizures. It is not healthy for Gideon to continue having seizures because we don’t want his body to “get used to” the seizures. Even though they have not harmed him, it is not good for him to have them regularly because his brain might think its the “norm”. We want to train him to not have seizures instead of allowing them to continue on so that his body/brain thinks seizures are the regular way of life.
Make sense?
To me, I wonder how they KNOW FOR SURE seizures aren’t hurting him. Hmmmm
