Tonight we had french toast with FRESH strawberry syrup and Gideon helped me make OJ. He had so much fun using the OJ squeezer. His giggles are the cutest ever!
Today we met with the school physiologist, preschool teacher Amy, and another OT PT therapist. It was for an assessment to see if Gideon would qualify to attend the preschool for special needs kids. When I went I was under the impression that Gideon mos likely would get right in. In fact the teacher had already listed him in the morning class. However, when he was being “tested” in that short amount of time his cognitive was showing pretty high. If he “passes” that test then he might not get to go. They can’t just take kids that have language delay. However, the therapists (Sharri and Kim and Gaylen) who have been working with Gideon since he was 9 months truly think Gideon needs this class. Its not just SPEECH. Speech Apraxia is what Gideon has and is a huge thing. However, he’s low in other areas. Gideon has grown in so many ways the past couple months. However in most areas he is still at a 21 month age stage. He also has really low tone in his whole body.
We should know Monday if he will be able to go to the preschool. There would only be eight kids in the class. He could very well be advanced compared to some of those kids. However, they really think he could learn a lot going instead of JUST speech after he turns three.
Gideon is scheduled for an IEP (Individual education plan) meeting on Friday. I invited Kim our speech therapist to come help me out at that meeting! We want to write something up that is BEST for Gideon.
After he turns three he won’t be eligible for services from the Tri County Regional Center like we’ve been getting (therapy coming to our home). They also say Gideon isn’t eligible for the stage two “after three services” However, in their papers it says “epilepsy” is something that is listed as being eligible. Brian and I are going to take Gideon before the team on August 27th to have him evaluated. I think they may be cutting him off a little too soon and there are things in the stage two program that could help us out!
Been a lot of stuff going on with Gideon lately. Paperwork, calls, appts. Hopefully it all smooths out soon. Bittersweet thinking of him going off to this special school (if he gets in)
I'll keep and you guys in my prayers as you work through this for the best possible situation for him.
