When I first started looking into homeschooling and methods I realized pretty quickly that I was more in line with the “Charlotte Mason” ways of teaching (using living books instead of textbooks, shorter lessons, narration, dictation, and variety of subjects) . I picked and chose things that were sort of in line with those ideas. I found something more recent (back in the Fall) that I fell in love with! The Good and The Beautiful for all of our Language Arts (everything in one book). So far it has been great!
I love that it is open and go and so far been super easy to teach. We can go at our own pace and we don’t have to stress about being on track. I still have a check list for the kids each day (because I’m type A and need a check list). The content is thorough and it really is beautiful. The art is so pretty! Lots of reading for the kids through out the Language Arts curriculum.
I haven’t started using their science or History. However, I read that the history and science is kind of like a family style (we can do it all together, all ages), which is saving families time and money. The whole program is super affordable. I got the history for us to use next year. The history is great because each year you sweep through all time periods, dwelling on different times/points in history. I think this will avoid getting bored of staying on one time period for the entire year. We’ve used Beautiful Feet this year (all living books) and its been AWESOME. However, I need something that we can all use together! Hoping this will be a great fit for us next year! I love that we can work on it all together.
Super excited we found something that will hopefully take us through our years of homeschooling!
We did sign up with INSPIRE charter. The funding is AWESOME! We can use funds for supplies, field trips, and even tickets to Disneyland which we were planning to get for 2019. BLESSING!! If we have any “faith based” curriculum then we just purchase ourself! All we have to do is keep attendance and meet with our “teacher” once a month. I used to babysit her and she’s a believer so its super nice!
Sounds exciting! I’m so happy to see home schooling working for you. Proud to see you adapt in the face of being a “type A”!
