Mom drove me to Tarzana today for Gideon’s check up with Morrison. It was nice having Mom go. I like to have two adults to listen to what the dr. says. Brian couldn’t go today.
Gideon is doing wonderful. He’s such a happy little guy and so much fun for all of us! We saw Dr. Andrea Morrison (neurologist). She’s so wonderful! She actually thinks Gideon is doing just fine! In fact on her typed up notes to me she said at the next appt. she wants me to bring the adoption papers, she is ready to adopt Gideon!! Cute huh?
Basically, at Gideon’s age we will keep him on the keppra until it has been two years with no seizures. When he is 12 months we are to up the dose to 2 1/2 ML twice a day instead of the 2 ML twice a day. When it gets close to weaning him off she will do an EEG to check for seizure activity. I asked why we don’t do that now and pretty much she said things change from day to day and really he’s gonna be on the medication for a while anyway so there isn’t a real point to do one. Plus at his age it would be very difficult to do. He’d be pulling off all the wires and wouldn’t sleep well in the hospital.
The seizure he had in May (when Luke bit his finger and the one when he got hit with a toy) were very different and mild because he was on the medication. It most likely would have been a bigger one if he was not medicated.
She does not believe his low muscle tone in the stomach is due to the seizures, but she also has no way to know for sure. She thinks he will sit, crawl and walk just fine and be a normal kid! She is not worried about him. She observed him for a long time and really thinks he’s doing good. She said since the physical therapy we are doing twice a week is at our house, and is free to us, it is fine to keep doing. She said she wouldn’t pay to do it though. As long as he is happy then its fine to keep doing it. It might help speed him up to sit/crawl/walk. Made me feel better talking to her about it. I’ve been a little concerned (like any mother), and am thankful she thinks he is doing so well.
God, you are so good and wonderful and I’m so grateful for all you have done and how you are bringing Gideon through this. So thankful for good doctors and such a wonderful family!
