Showing Love

Something we’ve wanted to be able to do is visit Vista Cove more often.  Vista Cove is the place where Pop spent his last couple months.   While its very emotionally hard for me to even drive that street getting to Vista Cove,  parking and seeing “Pop’s window”, and then going in Pop’s room,  where i need to take a few deep breathes to just get a grip.  While being there brings back memories of Pop dying, I think of him also stepping foot into heaven and how joyous that must have been! Such a bittersweet thought.  Its neat that we can actually bring a tiny bit of joy to someone’s life who might just need a little “pick me up”.

There are many elderly people living there in hopes to rehabilitate.  The kids worked hard on some window stain glass fall decorations and we made little vases with flowers.  We just showed up and started to give them to people and tell them we wanted to brighten their day and tell them God Loves you.  The people were overjoyed. It was such a blessing.  Luke had  a little owl he had made and not knowing we visited with one lady and she was so happy with her owl.  As we looked around her room it was FILLED with OWL decorations, pictures and stuffed animals.  She couldn’t believe Luke was giving her a little owl.  How sweet is that?! A little God Wink.  One lady couldn’t stop smiling and laughing with excitement that we were there.  She loved Luke’s Seabee shirt and told us her son was in Vietnam and died there.  She told the kids that they made her day and she will be happy all day because they showed up.

It was the sweetest day.  The kids learned about showing love without expecting anything in return.  They learned about working hard on something and seeing someone else light up when it was shared with them.  We think we want to do this more often! Maybe for the Christmas Season!
