Gregory will be 11 this year! Wow… in just a few more months! He’s such a hard worker and been saving his money in hopes to purchase an IPAD.
At first we were like “no way, you don’t need that….”. I was leery about the Internet use etc. and just wasn’t sure it was something that I wanted him to have. It’s expensive and isn’t a toy! We aren’t those parents that let their kids have all the tech things so early in life and skip over CHILDHOOD! I hate that so many kids are just growing up so fast and don’t even care about going out to play and just being a kid! Not the case with Gregory. He does enjoy his video games (which we limit anyway), and he plays with Daddy’s phone and some apps (he just loves to check the weather on that silly weather app). But he totally loves being outside and running around playing sports, Lego’s, drawing, and playing with his brothers! So, I’m not too worried about him getting all obsessive and not wanting to do other things! If he does… it goes away! 🙂
However, Brian and I have talked a lot about it. We talked with other people who have them and got their thoughts and we weighed all the pros and cons! Its really a mini computer. I think there are more pros for us getting one and will be a fun tool for him to have for school (projects, reports, books etc…) Gregory also loves to draw and I just found a neat thing…. you can DRAW on them and save/print the pictures. It will be a neat tool for him as he continues with his artistic gifts. I’m sure there is sooo much you can do, that I don’t even know about!! And of course there are the many games and fun stuff you can do with it too!
We have decided to make him save for 1/2 of it and we will chip in the other 1/2. This way its something that we can allow the brothers to use or the parents at times. It will be in Gregory’s care, but he will share. He likes this idea as well. He’s working hard with his extra chores, job at Granma’s and his poop scooping job. He’s got OVER $100 saved up already! He started putting back before we gave him an “OK” to save for one! He still puts in his savings for future, and his tithe. I’m very blessed that he doesn’t forget about those things.
