After much thought

After some thought, we want our family blog to be a nice fun place to come visit, a place to see pictures and things we are doing. Therefore we deleted the post that was starting up some discussion. Not that we think any of the discussion was turning to the negative, but it could have. Anything I write I want to do it with a humble attitude and not an attitude of pride! I want God to use me but I want to be careful in how I speak (or write) to be sure I’m getting across what HE would want me to. I want Him to teach me too. So I pray that I can DIG into His word and seek out how HE wants us to live.

So a couple notes on Proverbs and the Old Testament.

First of all proverbs is not part of the Law, or any of the covenants in the old testament. It is God’s wisdom. It was written by Solomon who prayed for wisdom and God gave it to Him. Proverbs 1:7, “fools despise wisdom and instruction”. You can choose not to take the wisdom of God, but God tells you that you are a fool. So, to throw that out of the Bible would be pretty ignorant.

We do not follow the OLD LAW in the Bible, that is there to show us how sinful we really are. It was done away with when Christ came. It’s still there in the Bible to show us our need for a Savior, and our history with God. Christ came to abolish the law!! See Hebrews.

The law (10 commandments) are still used today to show us God’s standard for sin. It’s always reinforced in the new testament as well.

As far as Biblically spanking your kids. That is not the only thing one must do! There are many different things we must do along with spanking (correcting, reproof, teaching, Biblical communication)I can’t say WHY God chose for parents to spank, but He did and therefore we must do it. Brian and I have studied this and learned a lot about this issue. We typed out a ton of notes and maybe I’ll post them one of these days…. We learned a lot of Biblical things as we did this study.
