OUr loved Dodger (Dodge)

Dodge came to us with Angel on July 10th. He and Angel got this Limp neck (a form of botulism) and Spring’s Mom was able to “nurse” them back to perfect health. Dodge then got it again and had been suffering with it for over a week.
CLICK TO ENLARGE Today it just got to the point that we realized he was suffering too much. Pop (Spring’s Dad) came over and broke his neck. It was a very hard thing for us to ask him to do. I’m (Spring) kind of “chicken” when it comes to treating animals and such. Mom had been coming over faithfully for over a week, sometimes two times a day to help treat him. She did a great job making him feel comfortable and everything. Thank you Mom for all you did!!
The boys were sad. But its a good learning thing. Gregory was faithfully praying that Dodge would get better. However, this is showing him that God doesn’t always answer our prayers the way WE THINK they should be answered. Dodge will be missed! Especially for Angel who ALWAYS snuggled with him on the ground at night. Now she snuggles ALONE because the rest of them sleep up in the nests. Kind of sad!

Now….. Brian is going to re-build the coop at some point. We think the botulism might be coming from spores in the ground from the citrus we have around. Frizzy Lizzie died of this same thing as well.

I am so sorry. It is always heart-breaking to have an animal die.

I am so sad that he died! We went through trauma like that right before Christmas when Maddy’s finch got sick. WE tried to nurse her back to health but like you said, God is in control and we had to accept that she would not live.

We are very sorry that he is gone! That is such sad news, but glad you decided to just let him go and not let him suffer anymore. Love you guys.

I’m sorry for your boys, it’s always hard and kind of scary when a family animal dies 🙁

  5. We’re sad too, but like you said, a good learning experience for the boys on animal care and prayer too. God is always listening and answering of course…and the answer is always whatever is best for us at that moment. This time, this must have been the best thing, for them to learn about this and experience it. Hope the “new and improved” coop does the trick!
