Laurel and Hardy & TV

Lately its come to my attention that I’m really not all up to date on what’s happening in the “world” today. There is so much bad happening its just depressing to even watch the news. I guess we should be a little more up on things, but honestly I don’t miss not knowing all the “news”! We don’t watch TV ever really at all. We only have an antenna and can clearly get maybe 4 or 5 channels anyway and we’ve been told that next year antenna’s won’t even work to enable us to get any channels. Daddy and I used to watch different shows and sort of be “hooked” to certain things that would come on television on certain nights of the week. A few years ago things in our life started changing and we just got so “disinterested” in all the shows and also some of them were just getting too disgusting and so “worldly” ! We had a conviction not to be watching certain programs. So we stopped watching them, and pretty much just didn’t watch TV at all. We aren’t “anti TV” people and don’t judge people who have their shows that they enjoy. In fact we do watch things just not TV programs. We normally NETFLIX different things. Movies, old shows, and even some newer things. But we just aren’t so consumed by Television that so easily can happen if one lets it!

I’m actually glad that we aren’t big TV people because there is sooo much junk on these days, even the commercials and I think its great that you boys aren’t getting fed that JUNK! You love watching movies, and cartoons, but we know what they are! In fact you love some of the older stuff that Daddy and I loved to watch as kids! We are thankful they offer so many of the “good stuff” on DVD now! Makes it easy! You don’t care that you aren’t up on all the stuff on TV anyway! Kids need to be outside and busy playing and using their imagination and not cooped up with the TV all the time anyway!

Tonight was fun because we watched one episode (pictured on the right) of Laurel and Hardy. I can’t honestly say that I remember seeing many of these, although I do remember my Dad and Peter cracking up at them a time or two while they were watching them. We only watched one and Gregory you were laughing so hard, it made me laugh just to watch you! I love watching you laugh! You and your Daddy have the same sense of humor! Hopefully the rest of them will be as funny! You and Adam both love Little Rascals too! Just something about older shows! Thanks to Grandma Jessup, your Daddy and I love The “Dick Vann Dyke show”. That is one of our favorite quick things to watch at night while we lay in bed or while we play a game together.

Just had this on my mind tonight and wanted to jot down some of our TV thoughts!

  1. Funny, Spring as I started reading this, and then got to the part about Laurel and Hardy…I started thinking about Dick Van Dyke and then you mentioned HIM too!
Dick Van Dyke could mimic Stan Laurel to perfection, and often did in the DVD shows. He was a role model of his, he often said. His physical humor and behavior often showed this. Probably one of the reasons I like him so much! -Cheryl

Kids would probably enjoy Lassie, I always did.
I agree-I think so much of the TV stuff is junk especially the sitcoms.
