The Train Project

Over 25 years ago, I got my first train set from my parents. My dad and a friend worked for many weeks in the garage in secret and built an HO scale train set for me. I knew nothing about it until my birthday until I opened my first gift and it was an Amtrak engine… BIG surprise! Many more train cars followed that one. I played with it for many years until many of the cars where broken or worn out. I tried to build a couple layouts on my own, the last right after Spring and I were married. None of them ever amounted to much and what little train stuff I had has been shelved for many years.

Recently, Spring (out of the blue) thought it would be a good idea to start a new train project and involve the boys. I was surprised to say the least. I agreed that it would be so much fun and now am very excited myself! So now we have decided to build an N scale train layout in our garage. We have ordered some track and are going to be rebuilding the train table we have had stored for all this time. All we have at this point is part of the table and this scribbled plan drawn by me.

The boys seem excited and hopefully it will be as much fun for them as it was (and still is) for me.

    Kevin,
If you are reading this…. is the grey part ROAD for hotwheel cars? I wonder if we can incoorporate that with the new layout Brian is drawing for the boys? Hmm… That would be cool! Do they make ROAD?

I know that Kevin would love to be a part of this project. He has very fond memories of when he and Brian worked on/played with the train stuff. I’ll make sure that he checks the blog and comments regularly!!(written by Donna).

Looks like fun and what fun it would be to have Kevin help…great new memories for all involved. I love Brian’s concentrated look while watching the trains.

Ah the memories. Brian was probably 5 in this picture thus making me about a year old, so I don’t remember this picture exactly, but I do remember the trains!!

    Love you guys 🙂

After watching the video of Adam, Ben said that he wanted to watch the train set video. I had to explain to him that this is an old picture.

  6. Oh what memories this brings back! I will never forget the look on your face Brian, when you came into the garage and saw that Amtrak train! I’m glad you are starting it up again with your boys…they will love it. I still to this day, enjoy watching trains and looking at model trains. I wonder how much of that enjoyment was because of your love of trains? Interesting to think of how our kids influence and change us parents too!
