Mold & House update!

Some of our family and friends may know we have been searching for some time for a house. We really feel a sense of urgency to get out of the house where we are now. We made another offer on Thursday. The Seller accepted our offer and now it has gone before the bank. Since it is a short sale the Bank has to approve as well. We are praying that we hear word back this week. Yesterday and today we spent the day cleaning out the basement.

When we first moved here we didn’t ever use the basement but for storage because it was damp and gross down there. When I was pregnant with Adam we decided to “makeover” the basement, because we needed the space. We got it all fixed up to be a play room and a place to store all the toys. We sealed the walls, put drywall on the ceiling and pretty much had it a NICE place to play. For the first few months it was nice (so we thought). The past two years its mostly a toy storage place. Since it rains and ruins everything we just keep all the stuff there for the boys to go down and get what they want to play with, since it can no longer be used as a room.
A couple years ago we were noticing the boys and my asthma really acting up! Also the boys seem to get sick a lot! So we finally had the house tested for mold. Sure enough we had it and lots of it. They tore out the dry wall down stairs. The mold guys came in with their masks and white suits on to take care of the problem. So we thought it was taken care of! However, we now think its an ongoing problem since the basement is still moist and leaks during the rain! I don’t remember all the different types of mold we have. But I know one for sure is called Aspergillus. I spent a little time researching mold and its amazing what mold can do to a person! Goodness, makes me want to move tonight!
For the past several months, I have noticed MAKY our little yellow canary not singing. Figured he was going through a molt stage or something weird. Then, I was telling my mom a couple months ago that it sounds like he has asthma. Seriously, he wheezes all the time, and does this clicking noise. I haven’t paid much attention. Then tonight when I was researching, I found out that birds can get aspergillosis, (so can other animals and humans). Maky does show some of the signs of having this! How sad! Often is fatel to them. I ought to see if someone might want to take care of Maky for a while. Thankfully in humans it only comes on if you have a weak immune system, or if you live in a house breathing it in all the time.
These are just shots from the basement but we have a ton that grows and keeps coming back in the bathroom window as well. We have been wondering if we have been losing our babies (three now) because of mold. There have been animal studies to show that mold can disrupt fetal development. There aren’t a lot of studies out there that show proof that mold causes miscarriage. However, that doesn’t mean that mold doesn’t! We have some other health issues that we believe is caused by the mold as well. Things that we never had before living here.
We do clean and keep a clean house, this happens when it rains!
All the walls down there are bubbling and driping and soaking wet behind the sealer!
You can see mold just growing! Gross!
We are about done “gutting” the basement. Then we think we will put the door on and not go back down there. Hopefully we get word soon on our new house!

    I urge you to get MAKY out of the house right away. If he is clicking he will likely die. 🙁 Birds respiratory systems are so so delicate, it’s real easy to kill them accidentally. I am praying so hard that you guys can move real soon. Mold is very very serious and can make you very sick as you well know from researching. I would be packing up tonight if I were you, but I am crazy like that. {{hugs}}

    Spring, I really hope your offer on the new house goes through and you get out of your current house quickly. Good luck with everything.

    I really hope this offer comes through for you, but if not, maybe you guys could start looking for another place to rent for a while since nothing has come through in the line of buying… it might be a quicker way out for you! Just a thought… trying to brainstorm ways to get you out quicker! Everyone is praying so something WILL happen! So sorry to hear about Maky. Hopefully someone will see your post & offer to take care of him… I would if I lived there 🙁 Anyway, You have got me thinking about the mildew growing in the cracks of all my doors & windows from the moisture here… I wonder if that has anything to do with why my allergies have been so bad lately!! I better get that stuff cleaned up!

    Blessings!
