Talking about the baby….

In the car on the way to school today the boys were talking with me about the baby.

Adam: “I hope its a girl because I want our family to be more FAIR and have at least two girls in the family”

Gregory: “I hope we have another boy, and that he’ll be a sports fan like me”.

After we dropped off Gregory Adam is thinking (off in space like he sometimes is)…. “Mommy, but how did God get the baby in your tummy, did he have to cut it open to put it in there” I’m trying to figure how I’m going to explain this to Adam… so I pause for a minute and then proceed to explain the best I can

Mommy: “Well when and Man and a lady get married, they love each other, and sometimes they can have children. God takes a piece of the Daddy and a piece of the Mommy and puts it together in the Mommy’s tummy. He doesn’t have to cut open the Mommy, He has his own special way to make it happen. He makes the little baby grow and get big enough to come into the world 9 months later”

I could see Adam through the mirror just thinking about my explanation. It was pretty cute! The other day he came up to me and said:
Adam: “Mommy, boys have wieners but what about girls? Does it hurt when they get theirs cut off? “

Mommy: “God makes boys and girls different. Girls don’t have wieners so they don’t have to get anything cut off, they just aren’t made with that” I told him what girls have and he thought that was an ok answer I guess.

So cute, thanks for sharing your conversation. Funny to hear what kids have to say about new babies!

Oh just wait, the questions get better and better. Love the way you handled it. I remember when Maddy was 5 and she asked “What does fertility mean?”

I think I ended up saying something like, “Fertility is a gift that God gives to women so that they can carry and give birth to babies.”

So cute…thanks for sharing, I always hate those kinds of questions, especially when they tell me way more than I think they should know!
